Prof Margaret Ross is Professor of Software Quality at Southampton Solent University. Margaret was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in 2004 by Staffordshire University. She is also a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Engineers. She is a Fellow of the BCS and actively engaged in many BCS activities from being a nationally elected member of the BCS Council, Chair of the Hampshire Branch, Vice Chair and Secretary of the BCS national Quality Specialist Group, member of the BCS Ethics Expert Panel, the TickIT Committee and the BCSWomen Committee. Finally, she was also appointed an MBE for her services to higher education as professor of software quality at Southampton Solent University in June 2008.

She is also conference director for two up-coming conferences on quality at the end of March 2010: International SQM and INSPIRE.

My Ada Lovelace Day Contribution on Professor Pearl Brereton

Pearl is a Professor of Software Engineering in the School of Computing and Mathematics at the University of Keele. I worked with her on the JISC/JTAP CSSEC project where we investigated developing a Virtual Community for Student Groupwork from 1996-1998. It was a truly collaborative project involving staff and students from the University of Durham, University of Keele and UMIST. A key paper describing this project is as follows:

Alan Turing Year, TCAC, and BCS Women

The Alan Turing Year is coordinated by the Turing Centenary Advisory Committee (TCAC), representing a range of expertise and organisational involvement in the 2012 celebrations. Organisations and individuals wanting to contribute ideas or support for the Turing Year are invited to contact any of the current TCAC members.
I’ve recently joined the TCAC representing BCS Women who are planning to contribute to the Alan Turing Year events.
